HVAC Tips & Helpful Reminders for the Holidays
It is already that time of year! Holiday parties are in full swing and the boozy eggnog is still a flowin’. Do you plan on hosting a holiday bash of your own this year? Let us provide you with some quick, fool-proof HVAC tips to help you survive this year’s holiday festivities!
HVAC TIP #1 – CHANGE YOUR FURNACE FILTER
We hope your holiday party is “lit”, but perhaps not “too lit”.*Queues “Burning Down the House” by the Talking Heads*. Did you know the number one cause of a furnace fire is a dirty furnace filter? Save yourself from embarrassment, and make sure to change your filter! At the very least, remove the dirty one until you can replace it with a clean one. This is one of the most important HVAC tips, but also the most preventable measure to take to ensure your holiday bash kicks off without a spark (in the furnace that is).
HVAC TIP #2 – PROGRAM YOUR THERMOSTAT
Between greeting new arrivals, refilling hor d’oeuvres and making sure Uncle Louis avoids the cheese platter, you will have no time to worry about your indoor temperature. With a programmable thermostat, you can easily set it and forget it. You can even choose preferable temperatures for up to four different times that day. We recommend setting the thermostat at a slightly cooler temperature mid-party just when things start to heat up.
HVAC TIP #3 – CHECK YOUR CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS
Carbon dioxide is a natural byproduct of gas furnaces. It is virtually odorless, colorless gas that is safely combusted and vented away from the house. However, old or clogged venting can lead to carbon monoxide build up in the vents, which can prove to be fatal. Make sure your monoxide detectors are up and running in case of an emergency.
